Facts

S.U.M. (Senior Utility Money) is a volunteer organization that raises monies for the sole purpose of assisting Senior Citizens on fixed income meet rising utility expenditures. We realize that often times our senior citizens have to make a difficult decision between purchasing necessary prescription medicine or paying a utility bill to prevent the service from being disconnected. Usually the life saving medication wins and now this individual is in the dark, or without running water or searching for other ways to keep warm. Money raised by S.U.M. is used exclusively to assist with those often challenging utility bills that constantly rise even though the income of  of the senior citizen stays the same. On behalf of all who will benefit from yours and others generosity, S.U.M. (Senior Utility Money) thank you.

A 2012 report by the Schwartz Center for Economic Policy found that in 2011, 75 percent of workers between the ages of 50 and 64 had less than $30,000 in their retirement accounts. Also contributing to the steadily growing number of senior citizens living in poverty is the decline in the number of workers saving for retirement.
